Summerwine Tour Bus

We're already counting down the hours and minutes until our return visit to Holmfirth.....

One thing I'd really like to do is go on the bus tour as I was so disappointed this wasn't running at the 50th Anniversary event. We're there Fri, Sat & Sunday but their website is pretty vague about what time it runs, it does say hourly from the cafe. However I'd be amazed if it ran every hour at this time of year.

Does anyone have any idea how likely the bus will be running and when/where I catch it from?

Barry you normally pick it up in the layby outside the cafe, you can always call 01484 687231 to check times etc

Thank you as ever Terry, I'll give him them a call when I'm there. Can you lend me 10p as I'll be calling them from the phonebox?

Have you not tried pressing button B in the phone boxes around your area see if someone forgot to press to get their money back or perhaps dial the operator and ask them to connect you explaining you had pressed button A when the call connected but you were cut off . Worked for me when I called Warmington 633 :)

Other than that dial 100 and explain you are a complete and fully qualified Barmpot and they will connect you FOC

Thank you CC, you've just brought back a wonderful childhood memory. As kids my friends and I would firstly collect the empty Corona (not the beer!) bottles from a building site then visit all the phoneboxes in my village to collect any returned change that callers had forgotten to collect. Bottles and change in hand we'd take them to the local sweet shop and get 10p per bottle along with our phone proceeds and squander the lot on 80's sweets that no doubt would be banned today......

You were lucky to have a source of cash, as well as returnable bottles. I grew up in a rural area with no pay phones, so there were only empties in the ditches along the road - more beer then soft drink bottles. Since we didn't venture anywhere near the bar about a mile up the road, we were limited to the soft drink bottles, to be returned to the tiny candy store a mile in the opposite direction. The cache was usually worth enough to buy a Fudgsicle.

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Holmfirth, first time since the 50th Anniversary in May. Didn't really take many pictures but here are 2;

This was a view of the church whilst it was tipping it down, had a meal at the Whippet & Pickle on the right last night. Never noticed it before but if you want to push the boat out it's well worth the visit and has amazing decor.
