My favourite character on TV was the little Jack Russell terrier in Midsomer Murders, 'Sykes'. That little dog, who had been in many films, appeared in 29 episodes of Midsomer Murders and had quite a following. I was hooked by the little guy and searched many hours on the net for a JRT rescue dog. Last year we found one and promptly bought him. He is black and white and as cute as Sykes. Our little JRT had been christened Jack. He would run to the telly and bark at Sykes whenever he appeared. If Sykes was on and Jack didn't see him we would say, 'Sykes is on Jack' and he would run to the TV. We wouldn't change the name of our little dog, he was called Jack from a puppy when he was born ten years ago. It was Jack's birthday June the 4th, he had been with us one year. On June the 5th, he went outside for a pee. I shouted 'JACK' for him to come back in. He completely ignored me. I called again another couple of times and still no reaction. In desperation I shouted SYKES. He promptly turned round, eyes wide open and ears upright except for the tips. He came running to me. A while later, while he was snoozing, I called 'Jack'. He carried on snoozing. I called 'Sykes' and he woke up, eyes open wide and ears up again. When we talk to him now he will only respond to the name, Sykes. He has chosen a new name for himself. I wondered how the TV Sykes was doing so I looked him up. He was retired in 2016 but sadly died at the age of 16 in September 2019. He was the best thing on telly. Here are a couple of pics of Sykes and Sir Jack Sykes 2.

If you'd ask me what you were both talking about at the start of lockdown I would not have a Scooby Doo [no pun intended] what you were talking about but I have been watching Midsomer Murders throughout lockdown having never seen it before now watched about two thirds of the episodes and rest lined up to watch in coming weeks.

There was of course another infamous Jack Russell Terrier that was the star of the show Stateside and that was of course Eddie[real name Moose and then Moose's puppy Enzo] from Frazier .

It's real funny how the dog has renamed himself. I once heard of a cat named Onion. They tried to rename him but he would have none of it and would only answer to Onion. On another note, I have tried really, really tried hard to accept and like the new Barnaby; but he doesn't have the same spark as the old Barnaby, no joie de vivre. Maybe if he would smile more or if they had more lighter moments it would make a difference. I seem to get the drift that he, the actor, doesn't really like to do the "at home" scenes. Never seems to emotionally to "take off his tie."

On another note about tv dogs this one seemed to have a good role

I wasn't sure at first when the new Barnaby took over but he does have a special way of looking at suspects which must make them feel guilty. I have a wife like that. :39:

The old Barnaby [John Nettles] has his own way of looking at suspects as well, he irritatingly smirks at them at every opportunity. :) yes just like my golden friend here!
