The Diary of Norman Clegg

Definitely the subject of a new novel, should one ever happen.

But how many times in the show did we see Clegg writing bits in his diary?

From time to time we would see him jotting things down.

Can anyone name the episodes this occurred, and if possible, what was happening at the time?

I can't remember if it was "The Loxley Lozenge" or "The Mysterious Feet of Nora Batty"?

In the café, Clegg was "Just catching the passing moment"

I would definitely buy the book if it ever gets published. I adore the little witticisms Cleggy often has. Like how much closer we could stand next to a wall if our feet were on the other way around. I have tried a few times go through the episodes to copy down his quips but soon get lost in the show itself and forget to put pen to paper. Maybe one day I will complete that task.

The nearest we got to the Clegg Diaries was Summer Wine Country by Roy Clarke.

I would love there to be another Summer Wine novel, if only to finish the story of Norman Clegg.

Do the introductions to the First of the Summer Wine episodes count? Each one starts with "The diary of Norman Clegg, aged 17", and later "aged 18". They go on to comment on his family and later, as the news from Germany becomes more alarming, to speculate on Hitler as a young man, wondering if he turned out as he has because he never had to run and errand at the butcher shop for his mother, as Norman had done the previous day.

Yes all of those episodes definitely count, all part of the great diary.

I was just watching "The Pony Set" and when the trio are with Mr Lucy by the stream, after he got soaked and he is waiting for his clothes to dry, Clegg is writing in his notebook, while also joining in the conversation.

He lives alone JB so maybe he is making up his shopping list. Either that or he may be drawing a picture of Mr Lucy hiding in the tall grass. :tw: Should make an interesting picture especially if he catches his backside on that cactus.
