The House in the middle of the M62

For years the story of the M62 has been that the house in the middle of the two lanes was because the farmer refused to move!
It turned out that the house was built on a geological fault which meant that to knock it down and put the road over it would have been too costly. The farmer and his wife were given the option to stay and have lived there ever since .The main problems for them have been spray during rain storms and dust during sunnier times.

The house was seen a couple of times when used in the TV show "Where the Heart is" in fact if I recall it was Pam Ferris as a nurse who paid a house call there

Yes a good old urban myth.

Some how the farmer refusing to move always sounded better than the simple fact about a geological fault. Incidentally those of us more local knew the truth all along!
