Now I have been thinking [dangerous I know !!!]......
Was the aforementioned metal detector Cleggy bought from [he'll sell owt will Dougy"...quote from Sid] THE SAME metal detector that Foggy hired to dig for Captain Clutterbuck's treasure from Auntie's ??????.....if so this opens up a new can of "Summerwine worms".....it means that either Cleggy got Compo or Foggy to sell it to Auntie...OR....he actually was to quote Foggy a "MAN OF STEEL" and he ventured into the lionesse's den and sold it to her himself !!!!....I know.....I have far too much time on my hands here on the Docks !!!.
p.s. every time I think of Cleggy's metal detector I think of Sid "REARING UP" at Nora !!!!.
XXXXXXXX !!!!!!!!

My guess is the ladies called round to Cleggs to ascertain the whereabouts of a certain Mr Sibshaw whilst he made a swift exit through the rarely kitchen window. However whilst the were they they spotted it looking forlorn in the corner of Norman's living room and quickly purloined it for a jumble sale that afternoon. During said church fundraiser Auntie reluctantly parted with Smiler's cash to get it and occasionally hired it out to barmpots such as the former Corporal Signwriter.

Captain Clutterbuck's treasure

Below are a couple of pictures of the main shopping street [Northumberland street] in Newcastle City Centre . It seems that Commander Willoughby has been up to his old tricks and has sold a copy of his map and persuaded someone very high up in the council that the treasure is buried in Northumberland Street and has set the council work force the task to dig up the street and find it . Clearly it is well hidden because the workmen have been "£"! digging it up and in some cases re-digging it up for months now :02:

It's either that or Columbo has another wide search on his hands!

Where is it in England that, I believe, recent digging up for street repairs uncovered the remains of an historically significant building?
