The possibility of a new episode

Looking at all the improvements in technology, could a final episode, written by Roy Clarke, be made?

Though I'm not a fan of Artificial Intelligence, I can help noticing how someone else's face can be added to someone's else's body in videos and the like.
On YouTube, there is a trend to stick Sir Kier Starmer's face onto the bodies of TV characters from Rising Damp, Steptoe and Son, etc.

So how possible is for new actors to go to Holmfirth, dress up as Clegg, Truly, Blamire, Foggy and Seymour, act out a new script - and have their faces and voices converted to those of the original actors?

Would this work? And will, one day, it look convincing.

I mean no disrespect to the original actors.

But, in theory, this could be a groundbreaking way of reviving beloved shows.

I'm just going to say... "Do you remember the several, failed, attempts to revive the 'Carry On... films?".
I would like to enter 'Carry on Emmanuel', and 'Carry On Columbus' in to evidence, as the nearest thing to trying to "remake" something, without the heart and soul of the original.

It's a no from me , they remade so many shows and they don't work , actually gave a series to Porridge and it was just awful for me the single episode of Till Death do us Part worked and the three lost episodes of Dad's Army were pretty good but everything else was dire so definitely no.

Interesting idea, wstol. Not sure what to think on it just yet. Sometimes newer shows just lose the flavor of the intended original.

I do think at times it might be nice if the cast from First of the Summer Wine would be able to reprise their roles now that they are older. That could just be my nostalgia kicking in.

Carry on Emmannuelle was actually part of the original run as was the equally awful Carry on England. But I completely agree Carry On Columbus was dreadful and Barbara Windsor was absolutely right to go nowhere near it.....

I'm citing 'Emmanuel' as it does not have the soul of the 'real' Carry On's (and too much of Williams' backside). I'd forgotten about 'England', now that's stuck in my head. I think it was only the bits the censor cut out, that made 'England' nearly a Carry On, and not nearly p0rn!

Sorry it's a no from me too, as it stands we have very fond memories of the show but to try and recreate it through AI would in my humble opinion sully it. Roy wanted it to be natural right down to the audience laughter so I think AI would be a betrayal of that.
Get me using big words on a Saturday night!

The only new Summer Wine that would work for me would be having say Mike Grady read the Summer Wine novels already published or newly written in the future if Roy Clarke writes some more.

Ideally I'd like the two Peter Sallis readings to be re-released on cd but that might be a complicated mess of rights with his passing in 2017 and the fact they were only issued by Chivers in the mid 1980s..

Well, again, using the modern technology I mentioned at the start, when it's good enough, I think I'd like to 'modify' Carry On Columbus' - so Rik Mayall becomes Kenneth Williams, Julian Clary becomes Charles Hawtrey, Maureen Lipman becomes Joan Sims, and Alexi Sayle becomes Bernard Bresslaw.

The question is, would the technology ever be good enough to achieve that successfully; and also, would there be enough interest in that?

With that kind of technlogy, the unmade Carry On Again Nurse could be made VIRTUALLY as intended - if famous faces and voices can be dubbed onto ordinary actors.

I see a lot of people are very sceptical - but (and don't ask me for details, because I never understood it) look how they 're-created' Les Dawson in the supposed form of a hologram to make 'An Audience with Les Dawson' - the programme in which he died before he had a chance to make it.

It COULD work, if someone was dedicated enough to make a very good job.

A Carry On should never be on a high budget! ;)

No one is saying it can't be done but I believe most us are saying it shouldn't be done out of respect for the show.
