Are we supposed to believe that Truly really was a CID man with Scotland Yard or do we assume he's telling tall stories like his predecessor Foggy. His claims seem to be given more credit than Foggys by the writer but I dont know if I should 'buy' it or not. Any thoughts?.

He came in as Sergeant Truelove and in later episodes was spoken of as Inspector. Huhh?????
