Truly's tie design?

Since having figured out Foggy's regimental tie, scarf and ascot(or whatever you call it that he wore in A Merry Heatwave) and the two pins he's worn on his sports coat - Royal Army Service Corps.. I now want to know what Truly has on his tie. Is it a regimental tie or pin or could I be way off base and it be some randon design?

I suspect that it is a crest of an organisation - Metropolitan Police?

I have a tie not dissimilar which is the City of Leeds crest which was given to me when I left Leeds year ago having worked there for some time in the public sector.

Blamire had a regimental blazer - RASC presumably as he knew Foggy when in Army service.

I tried looking that up on the net and I have a feeling you're right. I found this image.

Looks like the design on his tie from what I can tell! You learn something new every day!

well they have 2 theres no point in scrimping with such a quality show, audience and cast

incidently truly has worn foggys tie, but in are you being served lol

does any1 know where they got hobbo's colourful tie design from?

I know what you mean. When I was trying to figure out the regimental stuff that Foggy had, I wasn't coming up with anything till I stumbled across a lapel pin that was the same design that's on Foggy's blazer which told me RASC. I then found those colors which were the colors of his tie, scarf, ascot.

It looks like an Atkinson's Irish Poplin style (popular in 1960s price 21/- for those who recall pre-decimal) which had bold stripes and looked vaguely regimental but were not.

It is a style I still favour today but then I learnt all about menswear when i worked in the trade 40 years ago....

Doing research on another comic strip idea I thought of, I ran across an image that looks very similar to what the logo is on Truly's tie. This one isn't Metro Police, BUT it would make perfect sense..

The Huddersfield town crest. I stumbled across this on the AFC team website.

Agree it looks similar but there appears a touch more colour - there is a useful photo in the "Powers of Observation" thread on p 6

I have just checked out the 2000 edition of Bright and Ross's book "The Finest Vintage"; on p 68 there isa full page picture fo Truly and the tie is quite clear.

The coat of arms has a bottom base of yellow (or or in heraldic terms) with a shiled of whiote with blue iside and a yellow part, a lion in white on both sides and the top has a blue arrangement with what is likely to be a red and gold crown at the top.

should give a link.

It would seem that the yellow part on the shield is a portcullis.

One thought does occur to me is that there may be some restrictions on wearing the actual crest for those not so entitled and I seem to recall that badges and such like on TV programmes are often slightly different so as not to compromise that rule. However that may well not be the case now as the requiremetn for accuracy may have superceded such "rules".
