Just to revisit this thread, probably a question for my US based friends. I appreciate the scenery of the Dales is unique, but is there anywhere in the US which gets close in it's appearance, ie trees fields etc? If there is I'm guessing it maybe in New England?

I don't think you could recreate it. You could do an homage to LOTSW with a similar premise, but an outright remake or reboot would never work.
I used to imagine something like Summer Wine could've been filmed in Southern Ohio around Belpre where three states basically merge and have a lot of waterways and valleys and quaint towns and villages.
If you basically had a bunch of middle aged or old men and women getting up to all sorts of antics in a rural area with beautiful scenery it might work in America but it couldn't work as a word for word, episode by episode remake.
