Views from Nora's House

I know over the years that things have changed in the show, and at times we can be led to believe they have always been like that, while watching one of the earlier shows "The Flag and Further Snags" they spend a while in Nora's house, which is a studio set

Now in this episode they appear at the front door, she has a large hallway, they turn right into the front room where Nora is standing on the table, now in later episodes her kitchen is to the right of the front door, also when she looks out of the kitchen window there is little to spoil the view, yet in this episode there are buildings overlooking the window of the front room and when they enter the door, I am guessing at the time they never expected the show to run for so long and vast changes would be made, in reality the hallway is narrow, the kitchen is to the right of the front door and the only room at that level, with the bulk of the house spread over 2 upper floors, the top floor spreads over the building on the right of the house, which I think was often used as the window Compo used to look out of when he was in his bedroom

Its funny how when you start really focusing on a certain item throughout the years of the show how you can see the changes in it. I really notice that with the CAFE project. There are some scenes where the big CAFE window has a divider down the middle, maybe 2 windows instead of one big one? And don't get me started on the door knob situation, hehe :)

LOTSW is family to us. It is our home. Sometimes we don't like changes in our homes. So when we see something different in the show it is almost like a shock. The show was on for about 36 years or so. The front of the houses were rented from their owner. How many time was Nora Batty's front door changed? There was once when her door had a small window. Maybe the owners decided to change it. So when you see changes in the show think of it as your home. You do sometimes, maybe make changes or additions to your home. I remember that once there was trouble with the street where Cleggy lived. The owners of the homes were getting annoyed with the filming going on.

If you visit a site called 'cottages4you' and look for the holiday places to rent in Yorkshire and then Holmfirth you will find pictures of Nora's house interior as it is now. My cousin stayed there in February and was not that impressed, but she has a cottage of her own to rent so she may have been biased. I thought it looked nice.

I did visit friends while they were renting Nora's House, the Living room is on the 1st floor right next to the busy main road,so it was noisy in there, also you must be able to get on with a lot of stairs with the kitchen being on the ground floor
