Why?

Now we all know the later block of houses that Cleggy, Howard a Pearl lived in after moving from above the church in Holmfirth, at times we have seen vehicles and Characters approaching the houses from the left, so my why question are in " A Leg up for Christmas "

1. Did they have to sneak Marina past Howards and Pearls home, when they could of come from the other direction
2. Why did Compo have to be pulled through Cleggy's back kitchen window, he must have a door

I know it is only comedy TV, but these odd things occur to me late at night or early in the morning

Having thought about it for all of 10 seconds I'd say 1. is because their milkman, a certain Mr Luther Hobdyke, lived there and out of consideration for his exceedingly early starts to the day they didn't want to disturb his sleep. If they did they did they would undoubtedly get one of his tales in the secret service as the following cut script excerpt shows:

Compo: That Hobbo, he doesn't half milk his spy stories!
Foggy: If there's one thing I cannot stand it's people skimming their past to make it sound more interesting.
Clegg: (with a twinkle) It takes a lot to get anything past your eyes doesn't it?

In All of a Florrie, Truly escapes through the back door and in Mitzi's Found Her Mummy we actually see the back door. I guess its just funnier to pull someone through a window.

Unfortunately those questions are always forefront in my mind when I watch it.

For number 2 I'm hazarding a guess that Howard stole Cleggy's back door key once to let in Marina surrepticiously, however despite nearly 'cracking it this time', she only went and lost it. Later on it was found but that Christmas Compo had to be squeezed more than Foggy's not so really masculine purse strings.

Both this and above are 'in universe' explanations which to me at least are far more fun to think through and try to make sense of :)
