There's something comforting about steam trains
AgreedVery nice. Thanks for sharing. A part of me wishes they would have recorded that in Landscape mode instead of Portrait mode.
Exactly the same over here, the volunteers work so hard and without their amazing generosity these trains simply wouldn't run. Here across the pond, there are many tourist-type steam trains that operate on revitalized tracks. There are many organizations that acquire steam locomotives and cars; and are staffed mainly by volunteers who rehab and run the trains. Theses organizations take tourists on excursions which, depending on the line, review local history, view local wildlife, and/or view wonderful vistas.
I'd like to do a few more diesel or train rides, but for some reason they appear to believe everyone is a billionareWe have one not far from here in Pennsylvania, I wanted to have a ride before all of the fall colors fell, but I'm too late. I may still do it though. I enjoy a steam train ride..
That is a lot of money, $1,000 a day. They may have delays due to track issues. I've watched a show about train travel in Australia and it could have been the Ghan.; it was very interesting.I'd like to do a few more diesel or train rides, but for some reason they appear to believe everyone is a billionare
The Ghan- across Australia
If you want a basic cabin for the 4 days across the country its nearly $4000 for a single person (why do singles always cost so much more).... this does include off train excursions, but if the train is delayed or running late, they cancel the excursions and you don't get any refund.
Very nice!We were on a dinner train for our anniversary recently near Cleveland, Ohio. The attention to detail of the dining car's restoration was impeccable as was the food and service.
A line close to us does regular tourist excursions where it travels out to a large decommissioned bridge and then heads back. One thing they started on this one recently looked fun and we might do sometime.
