I am not sure if I am going against the grain but I really enjoyed watching how the series reinvented itself which must have been necessary for it to last over three decades. If it was on now I wonder who might be cast for the trio ...
I agree that mentioning passing and funerals would go against the light hearted humour of the show. However, Compo's passing was done with amazing humour and dignity.

I think he was brilliant. He (John) got his character so spot on. The nuances perfected. Absolutely top tier actor. Strangely I was watching him the other day in Serenade For.... episode and realised how excellent he was. Truly missed.
For me it is Car and Garter where he is the one convinced to attempt the latest crazy stunt which Compo initially avoids, and ultimately does (it appearss Sid has more bravery to try the racing rather than face Ivy - a wise decision)...
