Can anyone tell me what episode (and of course in which series) Compo says something like "That's about exciting as a day out in Cleckheaton!"

Please can someone tell me in which episode (and of course in which series) Compo describes something as "... about exciting as a day out in Cleckheaton!"

I have a vivid memory of hearing the line and laughing out loud - not least because I live in Cleckheaton, but shortly afterwards my brothers who live in Scotland both rang me to tell be they were in hysterics about it. I've asked them both since your reply - thank you - and they are as sure as I am that they heard it in Last of the Summer Wine. Perhaps we all misheard the line ... Anyone else remember? It must have stuck in peoples heads if they live in Cleck.

Greets and Weclome, CleckyBoy! :18:

I can vaguely picture Compo saying something like that. Can you give us any more to go on? Like where he was or what he was doing when he said that?

Sadly not, it was all about the line and it's delivery. It was quite a few years ago and it just popped back into my mind the other day. The most detail I got was from one of my brothers who said "I recalled it as a wet day rather than a day out." Not sure if that is likely to help anyone.

This is perhaps getting a little off subject here but it occurs to me that this is a bit of a tough ask to expect any one person to remember a small moment from one of around 300 episodes. However, if you have 295 Dedicated Members or more, then you could ask each of them to be an expert in a particular episode - over and above their normal interest. You could randomly allocate one (or more) specific episode(s) to each Dedicated Member as they become one. The more Dedicated Members the better the coverage. Then when someone asks a rather specific (yet at the same time rather vague) question like this ".... exciting as a day out in Cleckheaton", somebody out there amongst your fine Dedicated masses will be bound to stick their hand up and get to shine as a true expert.
Obviously lowly New Members like me wouldn't know if this was the case already, and possibly has been for years, and it's just a matter of time before each Dedicated Member has a look to see what's in this weeks challenging questions .... lt could be fun too! Just a thought.

I think you'd be very surpised at the degree of knowledge the vast majority have of all the episodes, remembering that most of them have been watching the series multiple times over many years.
Not sure if I'd call it an addiction, rather an affliction :D
Me, I watch an episode with every meal, it's like a security blanket, the music calms me down, and then I'm ready for the laughs.
So, over 20 years plus I must have seen each and every episode more times than I can remember.

OK so ruled out Series 1 and 2 because I don't remember Blamire so those must predate me watching it. We are all pretty sure Compo said it so that tends to rule out series 21-31? Is that right? We suspect it was in Foggy's time which might narrow it down a bit more. My brother has checked for subtitled episodes and searched for Cleck and found nothing which narrows it down a bit more, and I think it must be after 1995 anyway as that was when I first moved to Cleckheaton, unless it was a repeat of course - the hunt is on!

Thanks for that gothic. I'm going to assume that you don't live in or near Cleckheaton then, otherwise you would have remembered the line, assuming I am not completely wrong about it being in there somewhere at all. I look forward to you one day leaping up and shouting "That's it!" and rushing to post here, hopefully without knocking over your dinner :)

Is your cooking that bad ;) :)

I think its around 21 or 22 series. I have been watching the Compos passing triology this week I am sure Cleckheaton is mentioned in one of those by Cleggy.

Thanks for that Moggie Moo. I take it from that that you think it was actually said then (?). That would be the first 'confirmation' other than from my brothers.

Clegg mentions Cleckheaton in the series 21 special Last Post And Pigeon when they were looking at the map but it wasn't the phrase that @CleckyBoy is looking for. It was something like "I always think Cleckheaton conveys a nice feeling of substance on a map"

I watch an episode when I have breakfast.

I really don't think that is what I remember but thank you so much none-the-less for highlighting it. Perhaps it's just my (our) failing memory though.
Any other specific details re the other Cleck references would also be appreciated.
