Leigh would know

The cables seem to be connecting from outside the cabinet so closing the cabinet door would be a problem

I know if we were running jumpers, if that's what he's doing here they would need to be formed into a neat harness or loom. If my inspector saw us doing this there would be hell to pay

And you don't twist a bunch of pairs together either

The picture below shows something like it should look, also the sparks and smoke is not realistic due to the low voltage that is in the cabinet

Also the tools he is using, the only tools you need do a job like this is a pair of wire cutters, a sharp knife and and Krone tool also known as a punch down tool

I know is only TV and done for laughs

Is it too many wires?.
Not that Adrian, in a large cabinet you can have hundreds of cable, this could be a hundred pair cabinet, a hundred in and a hundred out, the actor is twisting wires together, where they are actually terminated in the strips as individual pairs

Ah the happy days of telephone frames , I remember people in offices when we connected up their telephone line on such frames thinking it was the dark arts and we were some sort of wizard, on reflection when we did the very first few it was satisfying and a surprise to us , same goes for connecting up ethernet but as things grew it was all done by a structured cabling company with our responsibility simply connecting up patch panels never had the same level of satisfaction . Do I miss it ? No I bloody don't :):):)

I was outdoor staff, we worked on underground and overhead plant. More enjoyable in fine summer weather but a different story in winter, up the Dublin mountains climbing ladders in a snow storm, hands frozen stiff. And no, I do not miss it one little bit either :)
