Here's a mini piece of news. In the process of rooting through the archives in preparation for the book, several Last of the Summer Wine scripts have been unearthed – in Roy's own handwriting, no less.

Sadly, the BBC do not hold a copy of It's Only Me, Whoever I Am in their archives. Unless someone out their has an early home recording, it is likely to have been lost to the ages. Very frustrating!
When Algarve was produced it was shot entirely on 16mm and Super16mm film. This was then edited and transferred to video tape for broadcast. The result is a standard definition video tape master with the inherent issues of its era – zoomed in shots, colour variations, occasional tape dropouts...

I loved this series, though didn't think much of the recent special. It was fine, but didn't really add anything that we hadn't seen of the characters before. At its best, it is perfect, gently, thought-provoking, comfort television for me.
