Pre Cafe days it was a Fish & Chip shop which I am sure we all knew, found these super pictures online, the first one of the chippy, the second one is the owner Norman Beall on his way to open up, I think this name appear on the cafe door in the early series

Clearly from the age of Net Curtains, I can imagine with all the fat in the air they would need to be washed regularly. Interestingly in the show and now [I think] there are an array of Curtains covering half the window for privacy but to me , especially net curtains, are just dust gatherers. Most modern cafe's have abandoned the idea of using them and have completely "open" windows but with the added issue, of course, of Customers being gorped at.

I think for some time it has been a proper curtain in the windows as opposed to nets

It was probably Mrs Beall that insisted on having net curtains. ;)

Anyone know when the cafe became a REAL cafe in real life?
It seems the outside of the 'cafe' was painted white in real life during Series 6, could it have been then?

I am informer it was early 80's which would tie in with series 6 filming, before that it was a paint store which was dressed as the Cafe for filming the outside
