    Sci-Fi

Rick, I've read 2 or 3 of the books that The Expanse is based on but not seen the TV show. If it ever comes to Freeview I'll take a look. I'm quite picky about SF and so gave Star trek Discovery a swerve after seeing clips and some reviews. If anything I think TV needs more original SF like The...

Lockdown ending - Seen anything back to pre-lockdown normal?

It's like when you wear a mask in a restaurant only when not sitting at the table as if that's going to make a difference. I saw something recently that suggested plastic screens in restaurants may actually be counterproductive by impeding air flow. In some ways we're still floundering with...

    Sci-Fi

For their time the effects on Space 1999 were pretty good. I think episode of it are still available on YouTube.

    Sci-Fi

Any Trek in particular? I like the original series and some of TNG, though not watched any for a long time.

    COVID Vaccine.

AFAIK it's viral load that equates to infectiousness, so detecting small amounts of the virus in a person may be the wrong thing to do. I was under the impression that PCR false positives are at least partly due to detecting too small amounts of the virus.

Lockdown ending - Seen anything back to pre-lockdown normal?

Apart from being allowed to eat indoors I haven't noticed much difference, unfortunately. I'm beginning to find the prospect of masks and social distancing forever to be depressing. A precedent has been set, and since respiratory viruses always spread most in autumn and winter then I can see...

    Sci-Fi

Any Sci-Fi lovers (books or films) here? I recently bought the film "2010 The Year We Make Contact" on DVD as a review of it popped up on YouTube and I haven't seen it for a long time. Got loads of SF books but they're still in boxes after moving house recently.

    The Land of Nod.

The hayfever med Benadryl is quite good for causing drowsiness, so perhaps you could try that? It needs to be the one which is effective for 8 hrs rather than the one a day tablet.

If/When should the series have ended?

Talking about stunts, even in Compo's last series it looked like it was actually him on a ladder to Nora's window. Does anyone know if that was the case or was it clever editing?

If/When should the series have ended?

A bit of comedy trivia. Both Bobby Ball and Brian Murphy (Alvin) were in Benidorm, as was Bobby Knutt who was in an episode of SW.

    I can't think of a title

In the early 80s a Liverpool player lived in a 4 bed detached house on the same estate as us. These days footballers get paid so much that a house like that would be pocket change to them.

    Arnold Street

Arnold Street is mentioned in SW and Keeping Up Appearances. Is it also mentioned in Open All Hours?

    Over-sized rear.

The title of this thread made me wonder if it was going to be rude!

    Moss Rise

I found the actual street where Clegg and Howard lived, and the latter's house has recently been sold: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/105383213#/ As for Moss Rise, I wonder if residents of that street get people looking for where Clegg lived!

    Moss Rise

Just watching SW on Drama and noticed a street sign saying Moss Rise at the end of Clegg's street. When I look for it on Instantstreetview.com it shows a different street. Does anyone know why?

    The Land of Nod.

I once went to the land of nod but the people there were weird as they were moving their heads up and down all the time.

    Gods of Snooker

Yeah, he was a bit of a nutter but one of the most gifted snooker players of all time. One thing I discovered from the programme is that Jimmy White was also a hellraiser to some extent and he's another exciting player.

    NHS Patient "Data Scrape"

Thanks for posting, I wasn't aware of this.

    Gods of Snooker

Watched this recently on iPlayer and it brought back memories of watching the greats back in the 1980s.

    Hot hot hot.

It's quite bracing in the Antarctic at this time of year, but getting there may require a sick bag while sailing across the roaring forties!
