My workmate who admits that he isn’t the sharpest knife in the box is currently trying to get a chocolate confection banned on the grounds that he finds it insulting … Smarties…

Timothy Spall is my favorite actor, he is also in my favorite film Secrets & Lies, it's a Mike Leigh film but has been voted as one of the 100 films of all time. I was also fortunate enough to see him on stage at The Old Vic in The Caretaker a few years back again absolutely outstanding.

He’s great isn’t he Barry,I’v liked him in everything I’v seen him in,and in the Timothy Spall at sea where the camera crew followed him he seemed a really nice man,and the off tangent stuff is brilliant btw.

I was watching Why is Barry at an Angle last night and the end scene,where the men are glued together in pairs (at Marsden train station by the looks of it) all the ladies are walking along,and Glenda says “Thankyou Mrs Avery” and Mrs Avery replies “Call me Lolita” I have watched that episode several times but still thought I didn’t know Mrs Avery‘s first name,in this end scene she is with all the ladies walking along,there is Edie and Glenda,Ivy and Nora,Pearl and Ros and Mrs Avery,who fits in so well with them and is on great terms with them,don’t know if the reason she left was Julie T Wallace’s decision,but I’m sure she could have stayed and been a great success.

Like others I was not super fond of Waldo or the chicken. Hobbo would have been more likeable to me if he was not trying so hard to be the center of attention thus overshadowing the other characters. Felt like since he was the new character the focus was all on him. Maybe if he was eased into the show more as a secondary character at first instead of the main one right away. Seemed like other additions to the cast like Howard, Billy, Truly, Tom, Alvin, Entwhistle, Nelly and others had better transitions into the show, just my thoughts.

Rick I agree to an extent but its all down to Roy Clarke's scripts really but obviously down to how Russ Abbot interprets it, though that is surely tempered by Alan Bell . I think so many of the main characters had either passed away or were in ill health [Clegg and Truly] they needed a strong lead to hold the show together and with his natural exuberance Russ Abbot is the perfect candidate .

Alan Bell had high hopes in Russ Abbott and felt it would kick start the success of the series again, particularly to younger audiences. He told us this when we went to watch series 30 at Teddington Studios. This would certainly back up your hypothesis CC, but sadly it wasn't to be. AB blamed the BBC's airing time for the dropping audience figures, the BBC blamed the lack of audience for the airing time, to be honest it was probably more of the latter than the former.
 
Talking of Seymour insulting Compo Chuffer it always makes me titter [oooohhhh how Ken Dodd was that !!!] was when Compo scoffed at his idea of a coat hanger "FILLED WITH LAVENDER WATER"...Compo looks in distain at Seymour and calls him a "BIG SISSY"......to which Seymour replies "not for me you LITTLE PRAWN....it was for a ladies dress shop !!!".
So now you know...calling someone a seabed dwelling crustacean is very insulting !!!!.

Yes that’s so funny,the chemistry was great between them wasn’t it MoodyBlue,I had to laugh yesterday though when Compo was trailing behind and Seymour talking to Cleggy referred to him as “the backward boy”

This has already been stated, but just to reiterate, In "Why is Barry at an Angle", Mrs. Avery asks Glenda to call her Lolita. Apparently, Lolly is her nickname.
