An underrated trio in Summer Wine

I think Roy Clarke wrote Edie's part to mirror Thora Hird's character Thora in Meet the Wife where Freddy Frinton played a similar role to that of Wesley as the downtrodden Fred . In the series, as she does with We-re-sl-ay [calling him in a posh voice in case the neighbours are listening] , she calls him Fray-ed and emphasises he is a Mar-st-ar[Master] Plumber .

Yes Captain.

I always love hearing Edie yelling out in a proper voice and smile, "We-re-sl-ay.......We-re-sl-ay"......... and then after no response and in a much harsher voice, "Wesley......get down here!"

I've gotten two of the books and watched the home movies (some of which were shot without the knowledge of the crew) and the making of LOTSW was pure serendipity, just pure serendipity. When Cleggy and Howard had to "move" due to the demands of the middle neighbor, it turned out that the new location was so much better.

This is so true. I've been thinking about starting a thread about how lucky they were every time they made a cast change to the main trio for so many years. Lucky in the sense that the situation was always an easy one for the BBC to agree to rather then being a situation where the BBC might have considered ending the series.
