Anyone know how Peter Sallis is doing?

From the research I did, I know he's in his early 90's and suffers from a condition called macular degeneration, which could result in blindness. However, that was a while ago, and I don't know if his condition worsened, or if he's still doing any acting in any capacity. Anyone with current information, please post here. It would be most appreciated.
 
Well, his eyes are not as bad as one would think, I mean he´s not entirely blind, and if you write in really big letters, he can read it. He isn´t acting, his memory is too shaky for that (let alone his eyesight), but otherwise he is doing fine. He could do more Wallace if there was more. He was last on TV at the end of last year, or that´s when it was recorded, it was him commenting on Vaughan Williams, the composer.
 
It only just registered that Michael Aldridge's full name is Michael William ffolliott Aldridge. What about that "ffolliott"?
 
I may be wrong buit I have the feeling its Welsh for Elliott. Please correct me if I wrong :-\
 
Nice to know he's still alive, he's my favorite cast member (although on the previous forum, i was called Foggy Dewhurst).
 
I wonder if Peter keeps in touch with any of the cast still? I know there's a lot going about about some of the cast not getting on etc, but id like to think some of them still keep in touch
 
I've always liked Peter Sallis, and I think it's good he's still well, at his age, him and Frank are like Platinum Actors (Both being 91)

From what I understand, he didn't think much of Thora Hird, at least according to Andrew Vine's book.
 
Regarding the recent posts, it would have been a dream of mine to go back in time and sit in on some of the shows productions. I had this cloudy image in my head that between the shots all the elderly cast members would be so jovial with each other.

Well, scratch that thought. I will just stick to watching it. However, I haven't read Andrew Vines's book but still plan on doing so.
 
I imagine the likes of Thora Hird and Norman Wisdom could be quite 'flamboyant' off stage, dare I say, 'annoying', so I can fully understand why Sallis was irritated.

I don't know how true it is, but the story goes Sallis said; 'I developed three words to help Norman in his work. They were "Shut up, Norman".'

While I have nothing against Norman Wisdom, and found it sad when he became ill, one has to remember when he became something of a nuisance to the Queen at some outdoor event a few years ago.
 
Yes, I think that was it. He met the Queen, did his routine, she went off to talk to some other people, then he reappeared and carried on with his routine. Ideal in one of films, but not the done thing in real life when you meet the Queen.
 
I must say I don't remember Norman Wisdom. I checked George's Helpful Cast List and says he was the character, Billy Ingleton. The only episodes I clearly remember that were listed under him were General's Last Battle and Gnome and Away. For some reason I just don't remember his roles.
 
This matches what I said, I think, Peter probably regarded Wisdom as being over the top off stage also, to the point of becoming impolite like he did with the queen. Wisdom may have been a nice person, I don´t know, but a character trait like that would possibly put Peter off altogether.

How interesting, I can see what the saying means. I have met a few actors, also some of the LOTSW cast during a lunch event 2 years ago and on another occasion, and some of them were, well, let me put it that way, not my cup of tea. A few were behaving sort of arrogant and pompous at times. Juliette Kaplan wasn´t my favourite, and Liz Fraser neither, she seemed to be really arrogant, she never even looked at others. I liked Jean Ferguson and Burt Kwouk best from those I met.
With Peter I must say he is just as likeable as Cleggy, very nice and gentle person, very respectful to others (also to fans who bump into him somewhere and want a chat or a photo) and a great humour. Definitely a "Go and meet your hero!"
