Anyone know how Peter Sallis is doing?

I have to stand up for Norman Wisdom here. Most of the stories about him came from neighbours, and a housekeeper, who was suspected to have been stealing from him so was dismissed by the family. The man had senile dementior. His family tried hard to look after him, but it became impossible. Like a lot of us in this situation they made the decision to move him into a care home. Then the nasty rumours started. As far as any one knows he was happy in his last days playing the piano for other residents and telling stories of his past. We met him in 1999 at the big celebration at Pinewood Studios. He was slightly over the top there, He 'helped' with the raffle and it could still be going on now if someone had not called a halt to his nonsense. I imaging his dementia was showing itself then, and I am told that this condition can turn a person to violence through frustration, so perhaps this was what was meant in the show your mother watched, ****.

I didn´t say anything about my mother watching anything ???. She has probably never heard of Norman Wisdom, neither had I before LOTSW.
 
Norman Wisdom added an extra something to the show,I have been a fan of Nw ever since I can remember ,he was a very talented person and deserves a loving memory.Surprised at comment about Julliete Kaplin she comes over as an extremely pleasant person.
 
I have always liked Norman Wisdom but am not necessarily a big fan.My brother wrote to him some years ago and in return recieved a beautiful hand written letter in reply plus a signed photo.I think he was loved by most of the general public andhe in return loved them.I sometimes think he felt the need to be always performing as he may have felt that was what was expected of him and he was more than willing to oblige even if in some peoples view it went a bit too far at times.
I sometimes got the impression that when in a scene with others he would try to outshine or steal the scene,so speak.Again,thats just an impression and i maybe way off base.Having said that,he had a rotten childhood and yet made good and was at the top for a time and made thousands happy.

Am so glad Peter is still ok, he is my main inspiration for my very late foray into acting !!

Love it I just wish I could learn my lines more easily, and Shakespeare can be a nightmare to say :-
"Noble Banquo that hast no less deserved, nor must be known nor less to have done so" groan !!
 
I remember watching an interview with Norman Wisdom, and he said that as he dad used to throw him across the room in anger, that's how he learnt to fall,( tragic) then when he went to visit his dad years later, he threw him out, without even speaking to him. His wife also left him with two kids to go off with some one else. A very sad private life, yet he gave so much joy to people over many years.
He probably worked so hard because he wanted to be liked by the public, as his family did everything they could to hurt him.
A very talented man
 
I totally agree minxie, on the same wavelength..norman had a disadvantaged upbringing and I think it affected him enormously for better and for worse....it allowed him to singularly push ahead into a film career, but as time went on and he got older and took small parts in summer wine and plays and a documentary on his life it became clear he was a very unhappy man....the poor chap seemed really damaged from his childhood experiences...but a bless for all of us.
