Loads of examples of him standing his ground. One especially comes to mind when he first comes back home. He's in the pub and has a confrontation with Little Big Malcolm and although he loses he certainly wasn't scared, not even slightly.

Yes, there are times that he stands his ground, but IIRC other times he's all mouth and trousers so loses his nerve about something and gets someone else to do it. But then my memory is not good so maybe I'm misremembering.

Should also mention that he doesn't like to stand his round in the pub, that's when bravery deserts him
