Converted SW DVDs to AVI files

Thanks to Terry's suggestion of using IMToo converter, I have
ripped all my SW disks to AVI files for safe keeping on an
external hard drive. I can copy files to flash drives for
playing thru my DVD player. The whole set of programs
takes just about 99.1Gb. But after having one or two
of my "pirated" DVDs skip here and there, I needed this
bit of back-up for peace of mind.
 
Double back-up

Like you Chuck, I have all of my LOSW and several other TV series backed up as AVI files to an external hard drive. Since external storage devices are relatively inexpensive, I bought a 2nd one and backed up everything to it in case the first one fails.
 
Yes, I have several as well. I use two to duplicate my
backup of AVI files, and a third for old DVD images (VOB
files). Then I have one more I use to collect and organize
before storing them. Sounds like overkill, but when you
have a disc die you're glad you backed it up.

btw - what program are you using?

When I first started saving files, I used the torrent site "The Box".......which I think you have used also. I used the program µTorrent to download all the episodes from "The Box" to the hard drive of desktop. I then started to create DVD's from the hard drive so I could watch the episodes on TV via my DVD player. As added security, I bought the 2 external drives and keep them for long-term back ups.
 
Yes, I was on TheBox as well, and on it's follow on till it
too died. I am using ThePirateBay now, but I really
really miss The Box!!

I have been using IMToo DVD to AVI converter which
works well AS LONG AS you choose the right options.
A bit rate of 1500 makes the resulting AVI file NOT play
on my DVD player. So I am now re-ripping several DVDs
where somehow I had the options wrong.
 
The day after the Box closed, I found TV CHAOS UK and noticed that they had all the Summer Wine episodes and First of the Summer Wine too. I even found some other hard to find series like "I didn't know you cared" with John Comer. As long as you seed, you get easy bonus points to up your download limit. Never had a problem there though they have gotten extremely crowded as late as some other site apparently went of line last month and the members have all migrated over.

For those of you who were with TheBox and it's follow-on,
check out TheShow.bz. Used to didn't have UK TV shows,
but now has bunches. Looking very promising.

And you'll never guess who's uploading lots of them.

That's right, you guessed it, HANNIBAL!!!!
