He was in charge I imagine of the Elevator "Car" buttons when he got in the lift with Marina sure he evaluated which floor button would get him out as quickly as possible but when panic really kicked in he would have been hammering the emergency contact button and shouting for help.

It was a bus! It was a converted Bedford short wheelbase, single-decker coach chassis with Duple Midland bodywork. It was built in July 1967 at the Willowbrook factory for Greater London Council.
According to the Driver & Vehicle Licencing Agency the current rules state:
Buses you can drive with a full car (category B) licence
You can drive any of the following vehicles known as ‘exempted passenger’ carrying vehicles:
• a bus made more than 30 years before the date it is being driven, and not used for business purposes or for carrying more than 8 passengers.

Getting Sam Home was broadcast in December 1983, as the bus was only 16 years old Clegg shouldn't have been driving it!

I know under the old licences you can drive up to 7.5 tonne so wasn't sure if it was in that category. Lets not ruin the magic, lets assume Clegg got a PSV licence during his national service
