What are your feelings on Fireworks. Should they be banned or are they just a bit of fun. Your thoughts please

As you say fun when you are young but now the kids seem to go to extreme lengths to maximise the level of sound put them in all sorts of containers and of course no observance of the time constraints of when they can set them off , assume a lot have been somehow pilfered because the prices are so high to buy them , the numbers set off around here and I suspect may locations preclude from the being bought by kids.

That reminds me, Captain. When I were a lad, I emptied the contents of quite a few bangers, making a small heap of gunpowder. Lit it.... Couldn't open my eyes as my eyelashes had welded themselves together, accompanied by a smell of burning hair. Happy days??

With all of the veterans there are suffering from PTSD and having melt-downs at anything that sounds like firearms, I'd plump for silent fireworks. Noisy ones aren't a problem for me since I was dosed with an intravenous ototoxic antibiotic for a couple of months. All I have to do is turn my hearing aids off to convert the world from very quiet to silent.

So many things are being banned or changed. Names of high schools, (Amer.) football teams, etc. Let's leave fireworks alone. The people calling for a ban on fireworks probably have an ulterior motive which is to remove enjoyment. Fireworks are to be enjoyed. Many cities and towns have fireworks displays and it gives families opportunities to go to an organized event. Now there are some people who do not want families to have fun and so they may focus on fireworks as being unsafe, source of air pollution, etc. But shooting off fireworks is an annual event so pollution should not be a problem. Safety can be ensured by following well known rules. To suddenly ban fireworks will bring these organized events enjoyed by many families to a halt.

I think the biggest problem is bonfire night has turned into a big money making event and can spread over a couple of weeks, when I was a lad (not long ago) bonfire night was Nov 5th and that was it, there was a big build up to bonfire night, with kids collecting whatever they could to place on a bonfire, plus penny for the guy where any income would go to the fireworks fund.
