Fivers

So what happens if someone from across the pond, is in the middle of traveling to the UK and falls ill? Does National Health say "oops, you're out of luck" or is there some way to get treatment at a reasonable cost?
I suppose it would be the same if we travelled to many countries we would need travel insurance to cover illness while away, I think if it was a serious problem the NHS would help you but expect a bill in the post if you had no funds with you, there is private healthcare in the UK, but depending on what the problems was would relate to the cost involved

I'll keep that in mind if I'm ever able to travel again. I had a week-long photography workshop at Glen Coe in mind back in 2020, just before the COVID lockdown, followed by a visit to Tayvallich and Bellanoch to walk in the footsteps of a couple of ancestors who left for New York State in 1805.

I've left my home territory only for surgery and hospital/nursing home stays since returning from West Yorkshire in November of 2019. Now I'm having physical therapy to try to get full use of my legs back following a bout of sepsis.

Enough moaning!
If you get to Glen Coe try and go to Fort William the scenery is amazing and on the shoreline of Loch Eli is shipwreck with Ben Nevis in the background which makes for amazing pictures.

The NHS has a core policy of 'providing care at the point of need' so unlike many countries I've been to where the first thing they ask before giving treatment is 'how are you going to pay' they will give the care and ask the questions later.

The NHS will try and recover the costs, but often they are unable if they don't (or won't!) have the means to pay. Sadly some occasionally abuse this generous system in what is known as health tourism whereby sick people will land in the UK for treatment knowing they don't have the ability to pay.

I was planning to spend a couple of nights in Fort William to walk around and recover from jet lag. I'll add that photo op to my list of places to go and things to see. Thanks!

Are 1 dollar notes still widely used in the US ? When I was there 5 years ago I was amazed they were in circulation when they’re valued at less than a pound?
