Gala Week: Missing word!

My copy of Gala Week has a minor printing error - a bit of chaff must have got between the paper and the press.
It is on page 144 (Penguin 1987 print) other editions may vary!

I can't guess ... What is the missing word?

Finally a chance for me to inflict some shared lack of knowledge of my favourite sitcom with my favourite kids tv programme Knightmare. 'But' was a humble spell intended to stop an arch foe in the final stages of a quest and was ignored in favour of 'transformation ' which, as it took longer than Auntie to buy half a cup of tea, brought an an end to proceedings instead.
 
"T" on its own in a Yorkshire themed novel must appear many many times given the dialects in Yorkshire for example There , Yorkshire rabbit like creature that raced a tortoise.
