Golden age of screens

With all the worries about social media and smartphones, i wonder if parents miss the days when “online contact” was just whatever was on the telly. Imagine if the biggest influence before bedtime was something gentle like LOTSW.
In my year teaching English in Shanghai I tried doing research on the show for an intended lesson but was blocked for 'subversive content likely to corrupt morals.' Entwistle had only just entered the show the year before.

Coming from a pre online generation when you walked out the house on an evening you did what you did and just hoped your parents never found out. My dad used to say once the door closed after I went out I'd just disappear into the ether but evert Sunday I'd sit with him to watch Summer Wine so that was one night out of 7 he knew where I was.
