could it mean 'self-cleaning'?
I my experience when a man says "Self Cleaning" it usually means the wife does it.

With these mature items the "Old Boilers " cleaned themselves or so I believed from what I have read not sure about those of a less mature disposition . 
What do you mean, it was only the other week I showed my wife how to get the grass cuttings box of the new lawn mower

Terry did you also show your good lady how to get the grass cuttings in the box i.e let her cut the grass? Talking about ladies doing all the work do you recall the show Potter with Arthur Lowe as Reddfers Potter written by our very own Roy Clarke where John Barron as the Vicar and Arthur basically got their long suffering wives to do everything .
Mine keeps wanting to show me but I tell him " I'll learn how to use the mower when you learn how to use the iron"
I'm a traditionalist, mans work for the men folk.
I'll look that one up Captain.
"Herself"used to mow the lawn at times but I refused to let her near the hedge cutters . After the day she was just about to unwind the cut cable from amongst the blades¬!!
It's not that I can't it's that I won't, I think I'd be banned from hedge cutters too, he knows what my idea of "Trimming" is from his experience from me "Trimming " his hair. I don't see the point of faffing about doing styling when a buzz cut lasts longer.

Absolutely correct
