I cannot wait

So many channels churn out the same old stuff over and over again.

ITV3 are certainly a main culprit.

How many times have they shown Carry On films, On the Buses, Never the Twain, Fresh Fields, Rising Damp, Heartbeat?

Now there is nothing wrong with any of these programmes.

They are all much loved classics, and are part of the Best of British.

But the main problem is they are so over-repeated.

Virtually all of this is available on DVD too.

But the thing is people will still watch all this on TV over Christmas and beyond that, usually because nothing better is on.

ITV3 and Gold and the like should, however, seriously think about showing other stuff that may be long-forgotten.

I guess these TV channels are contracted to show these same programmes over again for some financial reason.

I have nothing against repeats. But nowadays certain programmes get repeated far too much, and there is no fun in the viewing them.

I remember in the 1980s some shows were repeated after a long absence. These were Hancock, Steptoe, and Dad's Army. All these repeats were massively successful.

But now so many programmes are so readily available there's little point repeating these.

The whole problem with television now is there's simply too many channels.

When we had just four channels there was a fine balance between half decent new programmes and very deserving repeats.

There was a regular pattern consisting of soaps, chat shows, game shows, comedy and drama. Some of that would be repeats.

And it was quite good.

Todays equivalent is rubbish.

Just had a thought.

There is a very positive side to all these repeats.

Every time they repeat classic comedies, new generations of fans are created.

It's well known some of today's children love Dad's Army, On the Buses and Carry On films.

So with that in mind, these shows, films and all those great stars no longer with us, will live on forever.

One film that's on nearly every Christmas but it's one i enjoy to watch is The Great Escape.
