If the Dads Army movie is a success?

In next weeks Radio Times there is a big article about Dads Army the movie with interviews with the cast evidently they all realise they cannot recreate the tv but can show something new so maybe it wont be to bad time will tell.Still don't think much about Zeta Jones being in it and why set it in 1944 when the Home Guard was being wound down and confined to manning guns and an invasion ,don't make me laugh ,the preperations for the invasion of a continent were well advanced and the enemy were static to say the least.German spies were being turned by MI6 daily so a certain American lady would have been spotted the minute she arrived.Still film makers don't care much about fact watched t eartbeat and they showed a goods train supposedly in the sixties without a guards van so theres no hope.
I might be very unpopular in the cinema when watching this film !

I would have thought the North Yorkshire Moors Railway who provide the rail stuff would have been aware and could have advised accordingly?

The bbc seem to be cheerleading the new film and Gold keep showing clips so they must want us to go and see it ,I shall but under escort as I might get annoyed and make some comments!

I am going to this film on Sunday afternoonbut I shall be under guard so as to stop any outburst when the film makers do a cock up and have been promised a burger afterwards if I behave myself .I have ordered a new book on the Home Guard written by a chap who was in it will add to my knowledge as I have the one written by Rodney Foster once I read both I shall do a talk to my military history group. The BBC must have been paid a lot of money to publicise this film.

Well I was taken under escort to the film last night and I was pleasantly surprised, the actors were good Captain Mannering good creation got his walk and pompous ways,Wilson just right very vague ,Pike fairly good,Jones not quite right,Wa lker to young an actor and accent wrong,Godfrey perfect ,Hodges not in film very much and not good,Mrs Pike very good ,Mrs Mannering just like you would think she would be,Mrs Fox okay. Zeta Jones not a good performance vague acting poor character .Many of the scenes were lifted from the series but certain things were wrong ,Zeta Jones character says about the invasion to Normandy wrong only a select few knew this and certainly not the Germans they were convinced it was to be through Dover.Headlines in papers about invasion no way D notices stopped this and people kept quiet about it if they saw preperations. The film seemed aimless with a weak storyline as our friends said but it was good to see that the characters were not denigrated and they obviously enjoyed doing the film.Well I have seen it and enjoyed my evening out as did a full cinema I might be picky but I am a fervent Dads Army fan and will always prefer the original series a fact my friends foun unusual but I don't care THEY DONT LIKE IT UP EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I would definitely not buy a dvd of this new film having seen it that's enough I am happy to watch the proper series on my dvd collection but had s good night out with friends and a burger afterwards .

I have been to see the film today and I was pleasantly surprised . I deliberately went with an open mind putting the original series on the back burner . Yes the plot wouldn't win an Oscar but there are some nice touches . To me it was a close run thing between Toby Jones as Mainwaring and the excellent Michael Gambon as Godfrey , I would probably opt for the latter although the part is not as expansive . There were some laugh out loud moments [and the five people including myself who watched it did laugh out loud] and some things which don't work . I concur with Chris probably my least favourite portrayal is Tom Courtney as Jones it really doesn't work, swiftly followed by Walker . The two nicest touches, which are a nod to the original, was having Frank Williams as Vicar Timothy Farthing and the use of the Bud Flanagan original theme song at the closing credits .

In keeping with Chris I don't think I would purchase the DVD when it is released I will stick with the original series . I have seen but don't own the original movie because that was rather weak .
