Of Funerals and Fish

Just re-watched the Pilot again for the first time in yonks.

A really great episode. Compo is delicious.

Hey Chuck, When I watch the show I tend to start at the beginning and go thru the list. I know you watch other brit shows, but when watching SW do you just pick one you haven't watched in a while? Just wondering why you haven't seen F and F in yonks. I love early SW I suppose because it is where it all began and we get to know the trio.

Glad you enjoyed :37:

We do tend to go thru it from first to last, usually one episode
at night just before bed with a snifter of single-malt. But we
did take a break some time ago. Were getting too much
into it.

But we just felt that we wanted to watch F&F t'other night.

Not sure we will continue, but one never knows.

I really need to get a copy of this episode since its not part of the released DVDs I have. When I used to watch the series on YouTube I always started over with Of Funerals and Fish first.

Thanks! Got it on to a DVD and in with the rest. Oddly, my region free player can't read it but my blu ray does so that's all that matters.

Oddly enough, when I watched the Holmfirth via drone video, some LOTSW episodes on showed up on the Utube listing (on the right side of my screen). So after you've seen Funerals and Fish, here are some more episodes you might wish to watch, possibly even Barry's Wedding.

There are quite a few episodes on YouTube at the moment, but almost all of them have been uploaded in the last month and are of an interestingly consistent quality despite several accounts being used. At any rate, I suspect they won't be up for long.

I finally got my season 1 and 2 from GB. Got my all region player! Darn ,wish I had done that earlier. Also, they now have the subtitles! The only one I needed subtitles for was the first 2 seasons. Suppose I have caught on to the accent. Lol.

For those who may not have seen all of the shows, someone has put episodes on youtube, but you can tell it is taped from showing on tv,and NOT downloaded dvd. For someone wanting to see for first time would be worth checking into.

Even before I got hearing aids (which I had needed for about 30 years), I could understand most of the actors in seasons 1 & 2 most of the time. Nearly all of Blamire's lines were unintelligible, though, I think partly because Michael Bates was usually talking around a cigarette.

Isn't it fun to see a young(ish) Peter Sallis portraying a bolder version of Norman Clegg?

Same here Marianna about Blamire. Did you order a new season 1 and 2?

I think that is why I like the first 2 seasons so much because Clegg did have some grit to him. I suppose having his character be submissive was needed to even out the trio characters.

Yes, I ordered the set on the 14th, immediately after the last time we 'spoke'. It should arrive in the next week or so.

Yes Blamire spoke fairly standard English and I can hear him well, despite my own hearing difficulty, possibly because I speak much the same and thus am attuned to the accent. Also grew up with a father who always spoke around a cigarette so familiar! However I can see the problem.

As regards a bolder Norman Clegg - that persisted well into the Foggy era, thinking of episodes such as Flower Power Cut which had quite a bit of boldness! The more timid version, scared of women seemed to start about the time of Seymour which also was when Marina appeared. That lady has a lot to answer for!

Yes I agree I have always preferred the bolder Clegg, that very first shot of him grabbing a lift with the hearse is lovely.:)

Totally agree - a lovely touch of irreverence which got lost later on in the series. Still blame Marina as that is when the shyness becomes much more to the fore.

my region free player can't read it but my blu ray does

Might this be an MP4 or MKV file? I know that my DVD players cannot
read them, and so I need to convert them to avi files. I have heard that
a Blue Ray DVD player can read MP4 files.

Anybody with a DVD player (blu-ray or not) that can read MP4 and
MKV files???

My el-cheapo Samsung DVD-E360K Region Free DVD Player with USB and Karaoke plays MP4 files on discs burned on my PC as well as region 2 commercially-made discs. The relatively high-end player (sorry, didn't notice the make or model) at the hotel I retreated to during the early part of my remodeling project didn't recognize them.

BTW, it was a bit of a waste to buy a region-free player that can play files stored on USB drives. Both of my TV sets have USB ports. Neither set is at all high-end, but both are fairly new.
