This is a photo of a pre-war washing... machine? My mother had equipment like this and I used to help turn the agitator. What a difference there is now in laundering. I reckon that when I finally snuff it I won't be buried, they will put me in a museum.:D:D:D

My mum and dad when first married had nothing like this they used to put their clothes in their tin bath and walk a mile and a half to the nearest Wash House do all the washing/drying and walk back the mile and a half with the bath full of clean washing . In those days with a pub on every corner I suspect my dad probably sneaked off for swift half or two! :)

I have one of these in my garden. I keep my garden hoes and canes in it. Couldn't believe the price of one for sale at our local artisan market.

Never had anything so fancy when I was a lad....... we had the old copper and a hand wringer (small mangle)
I remember in the mid to late 60's, after we had moved to Oz, one of our "posh" neighbours got a new fangled twin-tub with washer and spin dryer!!

Nice, Dick had one with an integrated mangle. What is the square wooden frame next to it for?

I can just hear my dad saying that they would have taken the clothes down to the river and washed them on the rocks. And walked up hill both ways to get there and back! :21:

I still have one of those tubs, the glass washing board and the brass posser is now in my sons kitchen they used to be in my kitchen but he suddenly wanted them in his for some strange reason?

when i were a lad i was in a skiffle band, we used a tea chest as a bass and a washing board that was played with thimbles on your fingers as the drum

he had some great hit records with songs such as
does your chewing gum lose its flavour
my old mans a dustman ,
