Old White Horse Picture

Great picture, interested to know more when it was taken. A search shows that the White Horse dates back to at least 1833. Black & white photography in 1820's. I don't see any signage on the pub or the warehouse / factory. Was advertising a company name on the side of their building not a thing in British 1850's plus? I'd figure a pub would advertise itself to attract non-locals passing through.
 
My best guess would be between 1930s and 1950s before the roads got busier with the family car.
A quick Google search surprised me to learn that aerial photography existed from late 1850s from stationary balloons and later kites.
As there is a small truck outside the mill its safe to rule out an 1800's and early 1900's date.
Could be WW2 years I suppose as apparently pub signage was often removed alongside the more commonly known road signage.

Very good point, I had forgotten about that. Make it more difficult for enemy navigation. All those episodes of "Dad's Army" should have reminded me. :-)

I was thinking the factory almost looked shuttered. Also it could have been an expensive recreational photo for early White Horse pub days era - camera, aircraft rental, etc.

I have heard of cameras on pigeons used during war times. Wally could have used a camera as an excuse for his pigeons slow flying.
