Perhaps "pancakes" are a different thing altogether over there? Why the smoke alarms???

Over here they are just a baking-powder-raised eggy dough of varying thickness fried (?) on a small bit of butter in a skillet-kinda frying pan. No big deal. Fry on both sides quickly, turn out onto plate, and dress with butter and syrup. By "fry" I mean only spoon out some of the batter into a bit of butter in a hot skillet. Eh??

British Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) pancakes are much more like crêpes. Basically the same batter as for American-style pancakes (a.k.a. flapjacks), but possibly a bit richer.

Chuck ,

My mum was a dab hand at cremating said pancakes any style thick or thin hence my comment

My mums pancakes and her Yorkshires were a similar batter mix. Both came out flat and hard.:(:46::roflmao:
