Can someone (I know there are plenty of experts out there ) let me know please if Series 1 was filmed in 1972 and shown in 1973 and so on? Looking at the episodes shown this week on
Gold, including Compo's last appearance in the episode about the Morris Minor the episodes are dated as 2000 but Bill Owen had died the year previously. Also, has anyone on this forum thought of applying to Mastermind with your chosen subject as LOTSW as there are some real experts on the the forum?

But from watching the filming it can be a year or more from when they filmed until it is shown on the screen, earlier series where normally within 9 months, but later one the BBC's contempt for the show started them screening them when they had nothing else to show

You're all too modest as I've seen how much you know about the series, but I really like the idea of Foggy and/or Howard appearing with their chosen subjects.
 
You know, the filming dates for Summer Wine always were interesting to me; it's like, where was I during the time when Series 27 was being done? What was the world like while Series 24 was being filmed? If that makes any sense.

Luckily, I was able to see for certain from the back of Alan J. W. Bell's wonderful book. Maltrab is right in that certain Series were being filmed a year earlier. I will add that certain other Series were being done in the same year as their transmission.

In fact, I've gone ahead and created a whole thread listing the production years for the program if anyone is also curious.
 
Actually Cap n Mac I think exactly the same as you do about the dates of the series. I think 'where was I working when that series was made or first shown'? Or what was happening in the world at that time? Especially as they have often made reference to Brussels. I wonder what the plots would have made of the current Brussels situation?

That is a really good question: how would they have commented about certain other current events, direct or otherwise.

While on the subject of dates, here's a fun fact: for a good while, I believed Series 9 was produced in 1985 and shown the next year. That is because, for some reason, Bright & Ross' book about the show has 1986 as the transmission year. Add to the fact that the episodes themselves are copyrighted the same year.

Of course, I've since been presented evidence of the contrary. :)

I am not sure if you know but once you have posted to a thread you can actually edit your own posts hence you could remove the number 8 from your first post and then delete your apology. I hope this helps . I profusely use that edit feature because I always seem to make mistakes in posts , especially with punctuation . When I was working people said they had to don oxygen tanks to get through some of the documents I produced because I did not punctuate sentences . Now I read posts and if they can be punctuated more efficiently I will edit them .

Yes Maggie any thread item you post when viewed has options in blue at the bottom of your post Report Edit and Delete anyone else's simply has Report should someone post something inappropriate , If you click edit the content of your post shows on screen and you can simply edit it to correct errors or add content or even add photos . Hope this helps
 
Most of the series were filmed over the course of the year prior to the one they aired. There are a few exceptions to this (mostly in the first ten Series or so) where they were filmed early in the year and aired later and there are also some Series that aired more than a year after they were filmed. I don't know if any of the details are on a list anywhere, but from reading the various books about LOTSW its clear that's mostly how it was done.
