Watching the news about the Hurricane in Jamica took me right back to the great storm of 1987 in the UK with the Hurricane that Micheal Fish famously said would never happen. Was you affected in the 87 storm and if so how ,?

I don't think we were up North as much as Darn Sowth but seems such a long time ago the memory is very hazy these days .

My parents lived in Worthing at that time and their garage roof blew off.

Had a long day on the Thursday and was bloody knackered! Woke up on the Friday morning (16th October) and looking out the window realised the view had changed a little. What had been a park (a green area, about 3 acres with trees and grassy areas and kiddies play ground) was now a barren flatland, all the trees were horizontal and nobody could find the kiddies play area!

I missed the storm but certainly felt the after effects.

I was working in a vacant office south of Heathrow, not aware there was a storm brewing, my office called me to say pack up and head home around 4pm, which was unheard of, so I thought great even that time of night around the M25 and up the A1 I expected it would take about 90 minutes to drive the 60 miles home, every which way I tried was blocked by falling trees, overturned lorries, I think it was about 1am before I got home
