Summer Wine Decanted

Just watched the end of "That certain Smile" and the final shot shows Compo , Clegg , Seymour and Clem's waggy walking along the road when the bus shows up . I assume there was a building nearby to allow them to film the aerial shot or they used a Cherrypicker . Modern day they would have had access to Drones , I assume the last Series came too early for drones ? Do we think modern filming techniques and particularly Drones ,which are now in common use for filming all sorts of genres , would have added more to the series and offer different perspectives on our great show.

I considered using drone shots in Summer Wine Decanted - however, I wanted to maintain the look and feel of the show, and they didn't use drones. A drone would have helped on a few occasions to substitute for a camera on a high position, or put a camera somewhere that is now inaccessible, but that would need an operator on location with us, whereas the "B-Roll" shots of landscape could be done easily and cheaply with out us even being there with the operator.

I am not totally sure but I think Terry operates a drone and If I am correct and you decide to have any future specials it could be something you could discuss , apologies in advance for my rather presumptuous suggestion :)
I did have a drone, then they added complex laws in their use, plus Holmfirth is very much in the flight path of Manchester airport, to to fly a drone in the area gets complex even if licenced

Well deserved Leigh. Any ideas as to why views are on the rise again? Media publicity or new re runs maybe.
Thanks!
No idea - I wish I knew. The best performing videos at the moment are:
  • The Pegden Family,
  • Ivy, Nora, Sid and Wally, and
  • Bill Owen the Iconic Compo.
I have looked at the videos that referred them, and it's mostly my other videos!
Getting more hits from "recommended videos" too...

I am not sure if you covered this Leigh plus I am not sure it is factually accurate. I have a playlist on my phone which I use to play in the car and Groovin with Mr Bloe from times gone by came on got me thinking one hit wonder by whom and who was Mr Bloe. The history makes interesting reading it was the B side of a single by the band American Wind [ who??] who apparently had Tony Orlando as their lead singer he of tie a yellow ribbon fame. BBC played it by mistake instead of the A side .

Stephen James of DJM records heard it wanted to release it couldn't get the rights so rerecorded it with UK musicians initially with Elton John on piano but he didn't like that version and replaced Elton . On Top of the Pops the Harmonica part was played by Ian Duck but the recording was actually made with Harry Pitch on harmonica and of course he I think is credited with playing Harmonica on the theme song of our beloved show.

OK, I did not know this, so had to spend an hour researching it! I really have little better to do!! :29:
I think the group is credited in the UK as "American Wind" to differentiate them from other groups called or using "Wind" in their name - like the German prog-rock band "Wind" - the group appears to have been just know as Wind, and did not tour or perform live. It is likely the members of Wind changed between recordings, there seems to be no reliable information on who they were. Presumably the writers of "Groovin"; Bo Gentry, Kenneth Laguna, and Paul Naumann, performed on the original track.
According to IMDB (almost always accurate, although I've passed a few edits to them myself!) Harry Pitch is credited as playing harmonica from 1973 to 2006, for 255 episodes.
1. Wikipedia says Mr. Bloe was the name given to the musicians who performed the single "Groovin' with Mr. Bloe" -
2, discogs.com, says Mr. Bloe is an alias for the British composer Zack Laurence -
I think both of those are wrong as they post-date the original recording by Wind, they're only involved in the DJM recording!

Well that seems to confirm what I read Zack Laurence rearranged the song further after DJM's Stephen James arranged a demo recording with Elton on Piano and he replaced Elton on the recording, with the session musicians Dee Murray, Roger Pope and Caleb Quaye plus of course Harry Pitch on Harmonica though Duck appeared with the others on TOTP . Duck, Pope and Quaye formed Hookfoot and had quite a lot of success, in early times they were also the backing band for Elton's early DJM recordings . It seems everyone credits Harry as being the harmonica player on the one hit wonder single Groovin' with Mr Bloe and of course the man who provided the harmonica part on the LOTSW theme song.

NB
All of this reminds me of the wonderful Rock Family Trees show that was shown many years ago , now I guess for many artists now the producers of the show would be heading to the factories that produced the device that created the music or where Autotune was invented.
