The Railway Children

Which just goes to show not everything is better when its clearer ;)

Hokay, just downloaded an MKV file of the Blu-Ray RR Children movie,
converted it to an AVI file and played from a DVD to the TV, comparing
to the older, non-HD non-BLUray Studio CANAL DVD I have had for some
time now.

Yes, the BluRay HD version is crisper, brighter, and sharper.

And I gotta say that the older shot earlier in this topic looks far more
dark and dreary that the DVD version we have. Looks more like dirty video
tape than DVD. Not a great comparison.

But when watching something as old, rare, and beautiful as The
Railway Children, crisp, bright, and sharp are not necessarily
good things. Kinda loses the whole periodicity of the movie, made
about when coal was king.

While I will save and keep this newer version on a hard drive somewhere,
I shall probably keep watching the older DVD.

So we just watched the whole movie from the downloaded BluRay
file. And it still is a great movie. The BluRay version is certainly brighter
and clearer. Gotta rethink this, because we really enjoyed it. I may become
a convert here.

btw - saw no contrails nor planes at all.

And Yes, Big Malcolm (Paul Luty) is there in the village near the
three chimneys.

The first contrail I spotted was at 23.56 mins top left

If you pause when the Scotch Flyer comes through you catch reflections of the film crew in the coach windows

At 1 hr 3mins 56 secs you see a white van moving along the top road about half way up the picture from right to left

At 1 hrs 8 mins 05 secs you see a vehicle moving just by the tall chimney and again at 1hr 40 min 39 secs

My daughter lived a hundred yards up from the crossing for a couple of years,my then 6 year old grandson was in his element

Went to the Barbican years ago and saw J Agerter in a play she was terrific always liked her extremely competent actress.

T.... The guard Mr Mitchell is now chairman of the K&WVR a true rise through the ranks and the line is very successful thanks to the film giving it a flying start.

Mr Mitchell is no longer chairman, he is very involved with Keighley Bus Museum - often he is one of the Christmas Day drivers on our special Christmas Day bus service we have - as well as a local Town Councillor and Chair of the Watch and Transport Committee.

I see him from time when we discuss transport issues locally (one of my involvements is with the rail industry).

But the line has done tremendously well from the Railway Children. I have a small booklet that the KWVR produced which reflects on the making of the film and giving some of the behind the scenes story.
