To Flush or Not to Flush??

Perhaps one of our technical minded members can answer this one?

Why are increasing numbers of " wipes" declared flushable when the SEVERN TRENT water company declare you should not flush??

An email to them did not give a reason, just a standard "do not flush". ???

It's possible that this water company has cleared clogs and found that flushable wipes have been the reason behind the clog. The company that make these wipes have probably advertised that these wipes are flushable when in reality they are not. In the US, Consumer Reports, a magazine that addresses consumer issues in an unbiased manner has possibly done research on this very issue.

My water company always stresses that the wipes ARE NOT flushable despite the packaging stating it is. I guess it could depend on one's standard of "flushable". However, I will take the water company's word over that of the manufacturer. Afterall, they are the ones that deal with the problems of the sewers, etc.

The sewer system here can barely handle toilet paper. I wouldn't even think of flushing wipes - even the better ones mentioned in Consumer Report. It's not worth an expensive plumber bill.

This thread is really going down the pan!!

Being a property owner and not wanting to have to ring Dyno-Rod I say No flush!
