UK Broadband Users (mainly BT)

Yes, when I try to access this site from my BT Broadband the browser just sits staring at me!
When I use my VPN (vis America or Norway) access to the site is instant. So BT / UK members please be patient and blame BT!

Over here on the other side of the Pond, there are many internet providers, in urban and suburban areas that is, and I am very satisfied. It's pricy but I'm satisfied. There are very few problems and if there is one, I can get it solved very quickly. However, I have heard that it is another story in some rural areas where the internet providers have little incentive to provide and maintain service.

What do you call pricey, I am currently on a 12 month deal, the speeds are 55 down and 10 up (Megabytes) at the moment it is costing me £10 a month plus line rental which is about £18 month, after the 12 months the internet could go up to £25 a month, but it always pays to haggle or move elsewhere, the sad thing is the line rental cost here are creeping up in leaps and bounds, and I suspect it is to keep the internet cost down and make the deals look attractive, especially to new users

I currently pay $59.99 per month for Time Warner Cable broadband internet plus $10 to lease a modem. I just ran their speed test and it shows 17.01 Mbps down and 1.14 up. Both are a tiny bit faster than the target range for the standard service that I'm paying for. The fastest plan on offer is $69.99 for up to 50 Mbps down and up to 5 up. Time Warner has a monopoly in this area, so prices can only go up.

That does seem a little pricey, your bundle with modem equates to £52 a month, I assume that includes a telephone connection, if I took off the UK line rental cost, that means you would be paying £34 a month for what we call adsl2+ and at standard pricing with no deals for unlimited usage would be £20 a month, or if you are a low user £13 a month.
If you were a new user currently the offer for the 1st 12 months is a little crazy, unlimited would be £5 a month or £60 for the year, but they give you a £100 cash voucher, so in fact your are £40 in pocket towards the line rental cost

No, it doesn't include phone service because the physical cable isn't all that reliable, nor is electric service, and Verizon landline service is far too expensive, so I rely solely on cell service. A squirrel biting through the covering on the cable will put the internet out of service and every time there's a glitch at the factory here in the village the power goes out all over the village. It doesn't include television, either. It's only the internet portion of the bill.

I use the internet very heavily, so I'd be at the high end of your cost.
