Unusual episodes

Inspired by a recent topic, please name any unusual episodes of LOTSW, and give a short reason why it's unusual. There shouldn't be many, I can only think of;

A Quiet Drink - no Sid, Ivy, Nora, cafe, Nora's house, town, and only minimal countryside.

Full Steam Behind - no Sid, Ivy, Nora, cafe, Nora's house, only minimal countryside and no sub plot.

Some Enchanted Evening - Nora seems so out of character for some of this show.

All Mod Conned - the second half just seems so unlike LOTSW to me.

Any others?
 
I actually like episodes that do not cover the usual ground - thus Full Steam Behind is one I particularly relate to, being just the three without any of the others.

There was a time when every episode had the same features, Auntie selling something worthless to some unsuspecting person, the ladies coffee morning , Clegg being panicked by women, Howard and Marina never quite clinching that stolen kiss - and recall writing that this seemed slightly formulaic. Some like that - others prefer a mix of styles.

However Some Enchanted Evening does seem out of step with all other episodes in that Norah seems so readily to abandon Wally for Compo. When first released on VHS that episode was not included (some copyright reasons I believe) and it was quite late on before I actually saw it. {Actually I first saw it in a tape borrowed from a lady in NZ who was a great fan}
 
For earlier shows I would agree Enchanted evening. Compo out of character, and Nora was being a hussy!!!!! Hated that Compo was trying to take advantage of Nora , and she was gonna..... you know:-[
 
I always thought Waist Land was an one too, bring in so strong character just for the one episode.

Coopers Rules was an odd one too, focusing on Cooper and Walsh. Its my favourite out of the older episodes.

I was going to suggest 'Extra! Extra!', different for obvious reasons and a feature of another recent thread here. However, it was, of course, a special and in a way most of them had something unusual about them so maybe they don't count.

But getting back to my opening quote, as is her merry wont, the lady has befuddled me (again) and I am a specialist at being befuddled. After all, I spend most of my waking hours in that state (and many of my sleeping ones too). (Can an hour sleep?)

First, 'Waist Land'; who was the strong character brought in for just the one episode?

Then, 'Cooper's Rules'; I query how an episode in Series #29 (with only two more to go) can be described as one of the 'older episodes'.

I was going to suggest 'Cooper's Rules' for the same reason, its concentration on Cooper and Walsh. But it had another highly unusual characteristic though not in the episode itself. It was the only episode ever to be transmitted for the first time, not on BBC#1 but on BBC#2 (because of the overrun of 2008 Wimbledon's men's singles final on BBC#1). Caused me all sorts of problems. I had to go out babysitting and had left settings on recorder to record on BBC#1. When I realised what was happening I had to telephone home to get setting changed. I think I missed the first few minutes.

I thought Celia was a strong character.
When I said older I meant one of the later episodes. ( I wish you would give me time go back proofread :( ) :P:P:P

Interesting in that the part of Celia was played by a relative unknown, Gilda Perry, (sister of Diane Holland of 'Hi-de-Hi!'. The only non regular member of the cast I recognised was Hugh Lloyd.

I liked her, I think she would have made a good Coffee Morning member.
 
An episode that I find sort of "off beat" from the majority of the shows is::tux:

Going to Gordon's Wedding - the episode just felt "different" to me, maybe because there were so many characters that we never saw again. Gordon, his mom, his bride, her parents, Gordon's mom's gentlemen friends, ............

This is a show that all of those characters could have come back for a few more, don't you think so Nora's Hat?
 
Captian Clutterbuck's Treasure for one. It has some similiarities with Bandit on Stoke-On-Trent.

How to Create a Monster- normally the characters don't deviate from their usual personalities.
 
Don't know if it belongs with these but.....Nowhere Particular ...has always left a few questions
# 1, What happened to the van? Did Wesley stop it smoking?
#2 Did Howard want it back after Compo and Marina had fallen out of the back?
#2 pt 2 If he 'd kept the van it may have saved him getting throttled over " the widows car!!"
#3 Did Cleggy sort out his council tax?? :16: :16:
 
Gordon could have been developed and used a lot more. Really he could have been in it at the end. Maybe they could have had a guest slot at Compos Funeral.
