With everything seemed to be going digital. Does anyone still use a landline telephone. And who remembers British Telecom phone cards. It's all getting a bit advanced these days. A long way of the old dial phones

Been using VOIP (Digital landline) for about 20 years, so much cheaper on calls, and VOIP to VOIP calls are free with no time restriction.

Years ago I collected phonecards, several turned out to be money makers a few years later, mainly the Mercury cards

Terry and I are not 'typical' folk in this respect as we both worked in telecoms, so we're more likely to have been exposed to the technology. I remember phonecards, but never need one as, being a BT engineer (1980s - 2000s) I could pop in any phone exchange or many other BT premises to phone free, 24 hours a day if needed - on 'official' business. I do remember being given a standard green phone card by work on one occasion - I think I remember the idea was to use it if we wanted to make a call from a kiosk, therefore being an ad-hoc way of testing a card-phone. When I moved to Birmingham, nearly 20 years ago (don't worry, I've moved again) nearly no one knew my 'new' number and everyone was already habitually using mobiles. Since moving last year I have no landline.

I did a brief spell working for Bt when they introduced the idea a family chargecard that would allow your little darlings to be able to call home anytime and the parents would be billed in due course at a reduced rate. It was cheap and popular so of course it was scrapped!
