If it is of interest, I fight back against the unreasonable increase of advert sound levels by rigging up a sound compressor / limiter to the freeview audio output, which then feeds the TV sound input. I can't do without it now. Some TVs have 'auto volume' but my one doesn't work very well. Next...

The Quiznos advert is very strange! So the apparently low budget extended to commissioning an ambidextrous guitar player! That reminds me of the charming and cheerful Gold Reserves Jewellers TV advert on GB News. The lack of continuity is fun! Has any one spotted it?

Actually, I would not recommend it. I liked it at the time but Billy Liar the TV series has not aged well. His father, played by George A. Cooper, threatening the beat the living daylights out of Billy every episode of Series One is tedious - and disturbing.

In the Paul Temple plays that are occasionally broadcast on Radio 4 Extra, to express shocked surprise he'd say "By Timothy!". I've no idea of the origins of the phrase, but it's so endearing.

Since the passing of Compo it's been difficult to enjoy subsequent series. Until now. I've reached series 25. Some members don't like it and it's not my favourite episode but I am very impressed with the acting, writing and production of 'The Secret Birthday of Norman Clegg'. So very different...
