He was on Gold the other night in the Porridge documentary. Very sad.

Sad indeed. One of our great second tier supporting actors who worked so well with anyone. I have a great film/DVD for anyone who likes Gilbert and Sullivan, 'Topsy-Turvy', where he plays the part of Richard Barker, the stage manager for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. It really is a lovely performance and it is the type of part he played so well.

He cropped up in so many things.

He was particularly good as the landlord in Boys from the Blackstuff.
