Spotted online today that Scarborough was busy with the arrival of Santa, now we are Mid November, is it me or are these events getting earlier each year
 
Not to be outdone the Easter Bunny was running around Whitby dishing out Cadbury's Creme Eggs ....................... or may as well have been . What I find all the more annoying is heralding the arrival of , by publishing the dates in the National and Local Press , of the Coca Cola truck which has "naff all" to do with Christmas and plenty to do with how much merchandise and Coca Cola they can shift .

This most annoying slogan is part of their campaign "Visit the truck in a glittering winter wonderland setting and enjoy festive photo moments – and a 150ml Coca-Cola zero sugar to help you get in the Christmas spirit" no it @"££$% doesn't it just gives you wind and makes you nauseous . There is talk that if you recycle a can they will donate some money to Crisis which is the only mitigating thing is this total charade . :mad:

A little bird told me Peri , no names no pack drill................. alright it was Joey, that you were currently claiming compensation for an accident you had . According to the little birdie you were changing the honey bell in his cage and they gave you the wrong type of ladder you fell and hit your head on the cuttlefish :08:
 
I think you must have a camera secreted somewhere Captain. Ummmm, that doesn't sound quite right, does it? Maybe it's a little too perpendicular. Have you drilled a hole in the wall? :rolleyes:

The whole thing started in July?
We were in Inverness in October a few years ago, just in time for the Xmas shop to open!! Him in doors said " let's go and have a look!"
I told him " I'm on my Bl**** summer holiday!!!"
Drags on for months, I hate it.
Roll on January 12th.

Edit... The little prickly pillock over the road has had his xmas lights flashing for the last 3 weeks, I'll snap and go over there with wire cutters before December.

I'm not a fan of Christmas, another reason I love LOTSW as all the 'Christmas' Specials were filmed in summer. The fake snow in front of foliage in full bloom always used to make me smile!!!!

Bar humbug!!!!!
 
I have had a couple of days in the Lakes and even the small villages like Grasmere are already festooned with Christmas themed memorabilia and dare I say it Tat . The coach I was on pulled into a Garden Centre for the driver's statutory break and that topped everything in the Christmas Stakes aaargh, including a working huge model of three comedy Reindeers who were allegedly talking to each other .

The strange thing for me ,being of a certain generation, was the voice of the main one of the three [that Billy would describe as a the gobby one] was the double of Lenny the Lion which was just bizarre on another level it was as if Terry Hall had come back to life. My first thought was brave reindeer took on a lion and swallowed it.
 
I don't really mind the Christmas stuff on show - some shops' staff obviously go to a lot of trouble to create a beautiful display.
At my age and stage with (sadly) fewer people to buy gifts for, the pressure is less and I can let the commercialism wash over me, just as the Halloween displays have always done.

If it helps, Santa, as he is normally pictured these days, was finalized by Coca Cola. And "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer" was written as an advertisement for Montgomery Ward's, a department store. And of course, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade always ends with Santa Claus on his sleigh with the reindeer.

In late October I was in Grasmere on a literary tour. We passed the gingerbread shop on the way to the grave and monument that we were there to see. One of the other women in the group sidestepped into the shop and I followed right behind her. Bought a small package and enjoyed nibbling on it for the next few days. We discretely showed the leader why we had drifted off from the group and he had the grace to not scold us.
 
I guess Marianna like myself when you arrived with it being late in the year sadly Dove Cottage was closed , all I managed was a photograph or two of the outside and the garden . I assume you went to see Wordsworth and Family's graves in that very quaint church graveyard what surprised me was the sheer number of small stones in the garden path where people have paid money[not sure how much] to have an inscription added to effectively their own stone hopefully the money goes in total to keep the Church and Churchyard in good upkeep and none is creamed off by some Corporate entity .

Its a charming little village and the Gingerbread shop is so quaint . The story of Sarah Nelson who founded the Gingerbread shop and produced the recipe is interesting.

Did you have a chance to visit Betrix Potter's home, Hill Top Farm in Near Sawrey on B5285?
 
I sadly did not although her influence is seen throughout the Lakes there's always at least one outlet or exhibition in most of the Lake District Towns . I was on a coach tour so the destinations are pre-arranged . My other disappointment was the trip did not venture to Ulverston and so The Laurel and Hardy Museum remains on the ' ol ' bucket list for now . :confused:
