Shops no more....

Not a shop but the men that used to come round sharpening knives, he used to stop at the end of our street and me mam would give me a handful of knives to run up the street with to get sharpened. Not just me over kids too then we'd have sword fights on the way home! Seriously how am I still alive!
We had a mobile shop - once a week, that would have been mid 1970's - like a daytime milkman round, with daily "essentials". It's basically come back now, with ordering from milkandmore.co.uk

Launderettes
As a traveler, I sorely miss the launderette that used to be in every town. When I visit England, it's usually for about four weeks at a time, but I travel with only three changes of clothing. Without a launderette within a short bus ride, I'm reduced to the primitive laundry in the sink every evening, and hope it dries overnight.

I can sympathise. On one of my filming trips to Holmfirth my "on screen" jeans got very wet and caked in mud. Popped in to Tesco to see if they had anything similar - it was late, after other shops closed - but nothing. Ended up washing the jeans in the bath. Luckily they dried on the radiator overnight and looked "ok"!
