Shops no more....

Not a shop but the men that used to come round sharpening knives, he used to stop at the end of our street and me mam would give me a handful of knives to run up the street with to get sharpened. Not just me over kids too then we'd have sword fights on the way home! Seriously how am I still alive!
Back in the day, you could run with knives. Yes, how are you still alive. Speaking of which, kids these days will never know the joys of walking alone down a sidewalk. So sad.

I remember being severely taught by an evil nun, with a very broad Irish accent how to carry scissors across school. Ahhh the joys of late 60s early 70s Catholic education.
Ugh she was horrible.
She could see you and detect you in a crowd of kids.........with........her.......eyes....Closed :oops::oops:

Two independent shops local to Newcastle I miss are Milburn's Fish bar where you could get a plate of mussels/cockles/whelks etc it was a must when in town and secondly Dickman's pie shop they were just the best ever sadly long gone , they also sent them out to shops in the area and they sold out everywhere people , including me, were addicted to them . Here's a very early photo of their shop.

Need a Tardis......NOW!!!!!

It seems we have an Army and Navy Stores, this came to my attention because apparently the police have temporarily closed it down for selling something it shouldn't be selling :devil2:
Surely they weren't stocking items for the Royal Air Force as well? ;)

We still have one in Macclesfield, just called in.View attachment 7888
I lived in Macclesfield for about 4 months mid 80s on Steeple Street. I remember there being a small shop on Sunderland Street possibly called The Little Brown Jug. I used to buy oats, lentils, vegan cheese and all sorts of stuff. I was a vegan for ten years from 1981 to 1992ish.

NOTE: I NOW EAT EVERYTHING

Great chippy back then just around the corner on Garden Street. You name it they sold it. The couple that ran it also had a cafe up by the canal in Adlington. Sadly no longer there.
