I have a bit of a dilemma about the Stranglers. I loved the first 5 albums and they were the second band I ever saw live but then I gave up on them after some horrendous live shows ( especially with the crap brass section) and what I thought were really poor albums. I didn’t like the cover versions they recorded and it was inevitable that Hugh would leave.Hugh Cornwell - White Room.
I saw them twice in 1979 and 1980/81ish at the Manchester Apollo.I have a bit of a dilemma about the Stranglers. But… I loved Hugh’s menacing delivery and have always had a soft spot for him. Sad to see Jet and Dave pass away but the recent Stranglers stuff has been pretty good. I’d love to see him come back but obviously the way things are between him and JJB it’s never going to happen.
We were at the same gig if you were at the Who Wants The World Tour at the Apollo in 1980. Great gig and at that time they had all those previous albums to pull songs from for the set.I saw them twice in 1979 and 1980/81ish at the Manchester Apollo.
Amazing gigs.
I too really only like the first 5 or 6 albums.
My fave Stranglers album is The Raven. I say favourite because that was the tour I first saw them and it kinda had my heart but the others aren't far behind especially Black And White.
I don't like Action Man on vocals Stranglers, by which I mean the tall bald Action Man come alive singer![]()
Oh my God I think it was. My mind is unclear about the second gig.We were at the same gig if you were at the Who Wants The World Tour at the Apollo in 1980. Great gig and at that time they had all those previous albums to pull songs from for the set.
My mum knitted me a JJB black sweater with one white arm when Black and White was released

There is another video of Tony jigging around his lounge to this oneI'm linking through to another one that I may well have posted before......TOUGH!!!
It's Chris Leslie with Dave Swarbrick at their very best. Shame is that the quality is abysmal. Sorry.
Sad news . You can tell we’re getting on when all our old musos start to fade away. David Johansen the other week.. no more NYDolls left.Brian James of The Damned is no more.
He came, he played, he left us with a Rose that wouldn't die.
Rest in peace man x
